The Hard drive
This can be caused by corrupted files on the hard drive. The first thing you should try is removing and disconnecting the hard drive and booting up the console. If the console boots up correctly, format the hard drive and you should be good to go. If this doesn't clear the E79 error code on your Xbox 360, you have a much more serious issue
Corrupted NAND
The next issue would be the NAND itself. If the HDD isn't the problem you would need to flash and build the console's NAND from scratch. Typically the average individual would want to buy a replacement motherboard and install.
