Original Xbox Error 11 | Tinker Mods

What's causing the error?

The error 11 on your original Xbox console can be caused by multiple issues. Luckily a lot of them are simple things you can check! Start by opening the original Xbox and checking the power cable and IDE ribbons and their connectors. Make sure they are plugged in correctly. Make sure the cables have no damaged areas. If everything was okay, you may need to replace both those cables. These are usually pretty cheap like the IDE cables you can find here. If you're at this point and still can't get the error 11 to clear out, you will need to check the disc drive itself. Read on for more info on that.

Diagnosing the disc drive

The disc drive has a PCB (Printed circuit board) inside the drive itself. More than likely that PCB was damaged or corrupted somehow. This would be the cause of your error 11 on the original Xbox. If you can find (or happen to have) a PCB from another drive that matches yours, install that inside your disc drive and you should see the error 11 clear on your next boot up. The problem with this is that those PCB's can be hard to come by on their own. You can try finding a broken drive and use the PCB for parts. You could also just simply replace the DVD disc drive with something like these original Xbox disc drive replacements. Once the drive is replaced the console should boot without the error 11 code, and you can get back to gaming!
