Original Xbox Flashing Orange light error | Tinker Mods

An error with many causes

I'll just dig right into this one with a disclaimer/warning at the beginning. If your original Xbox is modded with alternative dashboards a flashing orange light could be completely normal. Custom dashboards have options to change the LED color and patterns as you see fit. If the console boots up like it should, then it's just a setting on the dashboard. Otherwise this error is a bit unknown and has had multiple issues or causes tied to it. There have been many claims that a rouge splash of solder may be on the board bridging contacts and causing issues with processes. It has also been claimed bad or damaged traces on the motherboard have caused the flashing orange light error on the original Xbox. Lastly, some have seen results by cleaning out the console and applying new thermal compound to the heatsinks to clear out the error. Unfortunately, nothing is for sure here. A true root cause was never really been determined on the flashing orange light error. You could always consider replacing the motherboard since this is at least confirmed to be a major hardware failure on the motherboard. You can find replacement original Xbox motherboards here. Replacing the motherboard would be the final way to get the flashing orange light error to clear out on your original Xbox console.
